At a recent apartment in Boulder, Colorado, we updated an old kitchen countertop. The counter had a burn spot and wear on the edges and had been painted over as a quick fix, but the paint quickly wore through and began chipping. We were called in to do a professional refinish on the kitchen counter.

Painted countertop

The apartment had a painted kitchen counter that was covering a previous burn spot.

The burn spot from a previous tenant:

We first had to remove the paint from the countertop to allow the new professional-grade application to adhere to the existing counter. You can see the burn spot in the original kitchen countertop in the image below.

Professional Kitchen Counter Refinishing

Once the paint was removed and the counter was cleaned to ensure no grease or dust remained, the kitchen was carefully masked and covered to ensure no paint products ended up on the cabinets or walls. We then rolled on an epoxy base-coat. This deep grey is the starter layer.

The base coat needs about 2 hours to dry, depending on humidity, before the chosen patented Stone Flecks color is sprayed on.

A kitchen that looks like new!

Once the stone flecks are applied and allowed to dry, a clear, kitchen-grade sealer is applied to the counter top for shine and durability. This method of refinishing ensures that your kitchen counter will stay looking like new for years to come!
